These Black Star Photos were provided by The Hackler Family - Stella, Clyde and Sarah

Stella Hackler Turner was born in Knox County, Kentucky: her parents were Issac Shoupe, and Ava Jane Robinson.  Stella had four sisters, Cynthia, Elisa, Marie, and Ora.  Stella had six brothers, Willie, Ernest, Chester, Lilly, Edwin, and Everson.  Stella's father, Issac worked at the Black Star Coal Mine, and he and his family lived in the Black Star Coal Camp.  Stella attended Black Star School.   Stella played on the girl's high school basketball team,  where she excelled at the game.  Her Husband was Harold Dewitt Hackler, who was killed in a coal mining accident at Black Star in 1934 at the age of 24.  Stella and Harold had three children, Clyde, Kenneth, and Juanita.  Stella taught school at Black Star for many years until 1960 when the Black Star Coal Mine ceased operations.  After leaving her teaching position at Black Star, Stella taught school in Fairfield, Ohio, where she later retired from teaching.

Stella's daughter-in-law, Sarah Hackler gathered these Black Star photos for our website for everyone to enjoy.  Sarah also gave us the above information for this article about Stella.  Sarah is married to Stella's son, Clyde.  Sarah said that she picked Clyde out when she was in the 8th Grade, and Clyde was in the 9th Grade at Lynn Camp.  Sarah said that her parents were very strict about her dating, and she only went on one date in high school, and that was when Clyde took her to Black Star High School to see the play Cinderella's Slipper in 1955.
